Welcome to Division2 Humanities!

In the second trimester, students in Humanities focused on poetry, the Inauguration, and the power of words. Students recited poetry, wrote poetry, and read a number of poems (historical and modern alike). Students also answered the question, “How will we remember Covid-19?” by creating original visual pieces as well as incorporating lines of poetry. We also learned more about early American history and read the book Our Declaration by Danielle Allen about the Declaration of Independence. We looked deeply at the language in the Declaration, and students chose a value from the document (like equality, liberty, agency) and created a photo essay about that value and how it exists in the nation today. Lastly, students read George Orwell’s 1984 which also reminds us of the importance of language (remember Newspeak!). Students created blackout poems using themes from the novel. Stay tuned next trimester for their original dystopian stories!
