Stories that Galvanize

A key element of organizing and organizations are the stories that are told by members who identify with the group. These stories shape our understanding of the group and how the group differs from another. As a part of this exploration we read George Orwell’s 1984, to better understand how the western democratic world sees itself and potential threats against it. Following this we read a series of short dystopian stories to explore other threats to our system of values. As we read the short stories, we compared and contrasted their structures, to identify how short stories are written. We then wrote our own dystopian stories to explore values we hold dear.
