Building Community at Camp Burgess
Each year, Meridian students and faculty step away from our regular school routine for a day of shared experiences and, every other year, an overnight adventure. This year, we headed to Camp Burgess in Sandwich, MA for two days of community fun. Students spent time in mixed-age groups, taking on team-building challenges and enjoying classic camp activities like archery, rock climbing, and swimming in the lake. Students were encouraged with the philosophy of challenge by choice to push themselves to try new things and work collaboratively as a group while connecting with classmates and faculty in new ways.
One annual tradition is the Meridian s’moresfest, complete with a campfire, singing, and lots of unique s’mores ingredients. After the campfire, students settled into cabins for the night, with volunteer Division 4 students helping to supervise younger students’ cabins alongside staff members. Our time at Burgess was a special moment to build relationships, work as a team, and enjoy time together outside the classroom!
