Extracurricular Activities
Meridian's extracurricular program is evolving as the school grows. We have been adding activities in response to student interest. Some activities meet during the school day and some meet after school. Currently, we have the following extracurricular options:
The Meridian Academy Multi-genre Band – Students meet twice a week to study music theory, write music, and perform a variety of musical styles.
- Drama – This program combines theater studies and the performance of a play at school. Some years, we also participate in the the Massachusetts Drama Guild Middle School Festival.
- Theatre Tech – Lighting, sound, and other stage support for our drama productions.
- Studio Arts – Mosaic-making and other art classes are sometimes an after-school activity and sometimes an elective in order to provide the most opportunities for students who want additional artistic experiences.
- Literary Magazine – Students write and edit a magazine of stories, essays, poems, and art.
- School Newspaper – Students in Media and Journalism produce a school paper with the assistance of older students serving as editors and layout production staff.
- Technology Committee – Meridian students maintain the schools network and computers. Setting up computers, installing software, developing policies for computer use, and generally supporting the technology needs of the school.
- Service Projects – Students propose and lead service activities.
- Model United Nations – Students participate in United Nations simulations including the Middle School Model United Nations at the U.N. in New York.
- Futsal – Middle and high school girls indoor soccer team during the winter season.
- Soccer – Qualifying students participate on the varsity co-ed soccer team of a nearby independent secondary school.
