Who is a good candidate for Meridian Academy?
The academy curriculum places an emphasis on gaining skills and understandings and then putting them to use. If you are a curious and enthusiastic learner (or want to become one!), if you want to work on problems in depth and take initiative, if you want to work with other students in a respectful and informal environment, if you want to discover connections between ideas, if you want to figure out how your learning can assist you in understanding and becoming a positive part of your world, then you and Meridian Academy are probably a good match!
Admissions will be based on a student's ability to take advantage of and contribute to the program and on our commitment to serving a diverse student body. Applicants should be open to new experiences and to using their knowledge in original and creative ways.

Where do Meridian Academy students come from?
Meridian serves a geographically, economically, and racially diverse community.
74% of our students come from public schools, 22% come from independent schools, and 4% were home-schooled prior to attending Meridian.

How much will it cost?

It is a goal of Meridian Academy to maintain a tuition that is substantially less than typical independent secondary schools. Our tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is $17,480. While this tuition is more than $10,000 less than at many other schools in the area, it is still out of reach for many families. Economic diversity is a crucial component of our mission and our financial aid funds are the main beneficiary of our fundraising efforts. Please apply for financial aid if you cannot afford the full tuition. Meridian families pay anywhere from $200 up to full tuition. To apply for financial aid, contact us for financial aid forms or complete the financial aid application online through the School and Student Service (SSS) at https://sss.ets.org (use school code #3702). Financial aid will be more readily available for families applying on time for a March 2007 decision.
What is the schedule for applicants?
| Note: The regular deadline for applications for the 2008-9 school year has passed. We are now accepting applications on a rolling basis. Please contact the school to find out if we have openings in the grade in which you are interested. |
Please see our application materials for a more detailed schedule.
Fall and Winter, 2008 – Come to an information session. Dates are listed on our home page. Contact us to let us know of your interest.
Fall 2008 – If your child has MCAS test scores, those are acceptable standardized test results. If not, please arrange for your child to complete either the ISEE or SSAT exams or contact the school about alternatives.
Final application dates:
November - February – Families should schedule an interview to take place by February 25.
February 2, 2009 – The school report should be submitted to the applicant's current school (sooner if possible), and teacher recommendations should be given to the applicant's mathematics and English teachers.
February 2, 2009 – Parent and student materials are due to Meridian. Applications will be accepted after this date on a rolling basis, if openings remain. Most financial aid will be awarded during the first round of admissions.
February 15, 2009 – Financial aid forms are due to the SSS (sooner is better and online submission also speeds up the process).
March 10, 2009 – Applicants are notified of the admissions decision.
April 1, 2009 – Accepted families indicate their desire to attend by returning their reservation agreement.
